Live Review | Big Gigantic & Adventure Club

Hearing live music is one of the most rewarding experiences for many of us. Whether it’s at a local show, music festival or renegade, the thrill of seeing DJs perform live continues to be an inspiration for those that live for the music. And it only makes things more exciting when one gets to travel to new places and experience new surroundings.

Artist Spotlight: Michal Menert

“We as performers, shared with you, our listeners, the creative best in our lives. You saw the performers in your own mind. You are not restricted by the boundaries, but instead painted your own big as life version of each moment with that loving, creative brush we call, imagination. But just in case your out of practice, here’s a little test to demonstrate the power of your imagination…”

Beats & Pieces Vol. 1 | Gramatik

This is not Gramatik’s first Rabble appearance. The Slovenian producer has worked on any number of collaborations with artists like Pretty Lights and Break Science and has been nominated for best “Chill Out Artist” at Beatport’s music awards. Gramatik has one of those styles that mixes hype with relaxation, chilled and amped at the same time. A sort of awkward collaboration of drum lines and samples that can take you which ever way you’d like to go, but always reeling in a good head nod. The full album never stops knocking and rings in with 17 delectable tracks guaranteed to work up some sweat on the dance floor. Gramatik plans on sharing the stage with friends such as Mimosa, Glitch Mob and Pretty Lights at his annual (already sold-out) Red Rocks show in CO.  Download the entire album here - alongside many other great downloadable albums from the PLML. If your unsure about making a 17 track commitment, here are a few of my highlights from Vol. 1.

Downtempo | Chilled, Not Stirred

The genre of Downtempo has been spreading like wildfire since it picked up speed in the early 1990′s. This mixture of soul jazz, electronic beats, and ambient techniques gives listeners a sense of calmness with a spark of tempo. Glitch hop or groove music are frequently used terms for this unique sounding collective, but the genre is sure to grow ever more. The Up There crew has been on a tempo kick for quite some time now, and I think it is only appropriate that we share with all of you!

SUN:MONX | GLITCH-HOP

[From the SUN:MONX Facebook] “What do you get when the chef throws some multi-cultural, bio dynamic, hybridized harmonic fries into the melting pot? A tasty mash of the most mystic, futuristic, rub-your-tummy-dub delicacy. This is precisely the recipe of the Melbourne based collaborative duo Sun:monx. Consisting entirely of one pinch Opiuo [who is in the middle of a nationwide tour], and one drop Albino, they power through the organic ear ways creating their own unique, melodically balanced, precisely garnished, belly satisfying, hot n chunky meal.” I’m so glad to share this with all of you funk-feins! Opiuo is one of my favorite glitch artists, so it was only necessary that his duo project deserved a highlight on theRABBLE…it’s too groovy! The best I can describe this is… if Emancipator and Pretty Lights had a hip-hop infused/bass heavy/melodic baby. That’s the best I can come up with. For now. If you like what you hear, go grab their FREE EP! I absolutely love this shit. But it’s not for everybody. The songs below are lesser-quality mp3 files, had to make copies because the originals are too big. Do yourself a favor and download the original versions from the link above.

[LOS ANGELES, CA] LIVE REVIEW | The Glitch Mob

The glitch-hop, bass heavy trio, The Glitch Mob took over LA Live on Friday night to cap off their nationwide tour, returning home to their beloved hometown fans at Club Nokia for an intimate and unforgettable performance.  Preceded by artists Photek and fan favorite RJD2, The Glitch brought the sauce, including a duo of hip-hop dancers and an aerialist for added performance value.  Photek began the evening as fans continued to pour in well after the 9pm start time, sticking to low tempo dub-infused tracks with soft female vocals – tracks like remixes of Eleanor Rigsby and Starry Eyed. Photek did his job, giving the audience a sneak peak of the bass heavy tunes that were to come thereafter, while providing a great opening set for the drum & bass crowd to rock out to.  However, the best of the night was yet to come. –  Continue reading after the jump Continue Reading →
