JMSN

You remember that feeling? The one Abel Tesfaye gave you when you first heard The Weeknd‘s House Of Balloons? Well let me introduce you to Christian Berishaj. In January he released his debut album titled †Priscilla†, and now he’s producing interesting, disturbing videos such as this one.  Continue Reading →

Resident DJ | Pretty Lights

theRABBLE has paid tribute to Derek Smith many times since its creation, and does not intend to stop anytime soon. At this point we feel pretty comfortable saying that Derek has residency on this blog. From here on out we will simply reference him as his stage name Pretty Lights, and save you, the reader, the trouble of working your way through a description of the background and details of how this artist has unexpectedly established himself as a pioneer in the industry through experimentation and expansion of music sampling as it was once known. Bonobo | The Monkey and the Music

The minimalistic sound and seemingly secret drops from Bonobo has been putting sly grins on my face for a couple weeks now. The UK producer and DJ, Simon Green, has released tons of groovy tunes that seem to mix somewhere between Emancipator and Beats Antique. Green’s tracks use heaps of samples that develop, more often that not, in a linear fashion. If you’ve ever been to a Trance show you know what I’m talking about. The music rarely stops but with the coming and going of bass lines, percussion, and keyboard samples it changes pace keeping up a type of musical story. The newest album, “Black Sands,” is out now, along with a hearty list of USA, Europe, and Australian tour dates that are selling like hotcakes. You can surely find me thrashing this over-grown mop of travelers hair on the dance floor at their (full band) March 8th show in Melbourne. Take a peak at some of these tracks that won’t disappoint.

Downtempo | Chilled, Not Stirred

The genre of Downtempo has been spreading like wildfire since it picked up speed in the early 1990′s. This mixture of soul jazz, electronic beats, and ambient techniques gives listeners a sense of calmness with a spark of tempo. Glitch hop or groove music are frequently used terms for this unique sounding collective, but the genre is sure to grow ever more. The Up There crew has been on a tempo kick for quite some time now, and I think it is only appropriate that we share with all of you!

AMPlify your Life

AmpLive, most commonly known for his collaboration with Zumbi in Zion I Crew, has taken his musical talents to a whole new level. He is quickly building a reputation as one of California’s most talented and diverse music producers/DJs. AmpLive has done work for ESPN, SportsCenter, America’s Next Top Model, and much more. Back in 2008, I fell in love with Amp’s Radiohead “Rainydayz Remixes” which included hits from Del the Funky Homosapien, but I have fallen head-over-heels for his newest “Love EP”. SUN:MONX | GLITCH-HOP

[From the SUN:MONX Facebook] “What do you get when the chef throws some multi-cultural, bio dynamic, hybridized harmonic fries into the melting pot? A tasty mash of the most mystic, futuristic, rub-your-tummy-dub delicacy. This is precisely the recipe of the Melbourne based collaborative duo Sun:monx. Consisting entirely of one pinch Opiuo [who is in the middle of a nationwide tour], and one drop Albino, they power through the organic ear ways creating their own unique, melodically balanced, precisely garnished, belly satisfying, hot n chunky meal.” I’m so glad to share this with all of you funk-feins! Opiuo is one of my favorite glitch artists, so it was only necessary that his duo project deserved a highlight on theRABBLE…it’s too groovy! The best I can describe this is… if Emancipator and Pretty Lights had a hip-hop infused/bass heavy/melodic baby. That’s the best I can come up with. For now. If you like what you hear, go grab their FREE EP! I absolutely love this shit. But it’s not for everybody. The songs below are lesser-quality mp3 files, had to make copies because the originals are too big. Do yourself a favor and download the original versions from the link above.

MotM | Benzi & Diplo Present…Paradise Falls

My man and contributing editor BK showed me this over the weekend and I’m so glad he did. That’s the beauty of tagging along with us, we share, and share, and share.

Mansions on the Moon is the latest project from Lane Shaw and Ben Hazlegrove (of Pnuma Trio) along with singer/songwriter, Ted Wendler. The group formed a little over a year ago, developing their signature sound at studios in Atlanta and Virginia Beach and have since collaborated with N*E*R*D, Diplo, DJ Benzi and Chiddy Bang’s Xaphoon Jones.  Some of the tracks are remixes, re-edits, and adaptations of other works from the likes of Deadmau5, Junior Boys, and Washed Out.  That being said, they all showcase different dynamics of the Mansion on the Moon crew and their musical capabilities.  The future looks bright UP THERE. Don’t it? Download the full album here, it’s free!
