Defying Genres | Sub Swara

Since finals are now over I no longer have any excuses for not finding new artists and music for our listeners to enjoy. Well today I managed to stumble across a couple gems thanks to UP THERE friends and crafty producers, Traveler. Though I may not have Moves Like Jagger, these funky electronic influenced beats have me kicking my legs jumping around like a hillbilly dancing to his banjo. Dhruva Ganesan and Dave Sharma come together to give you Sub Swara, the two have been involved in the music business for some time now, first putting on monthly music events in New York. They are now breaking the limitations of any single music genre with their spacey creativity.

Colorstorm I NEW Bassnectar Mixtape

A good friend of mine brought some great news to my ears today, and I’m returning the favor by passing it on. (Here at UP There we’re all about returning the favor.)

Bassnectar has a new mixtape and its being released today. He’s already given consent to spread it like jelly via twitter so tell your all your friends: Bassnectar is bringing the SLAPS. Showcasing unreleased tracks as well as a few older favorites, he incorporates sounds buried deep within his musical archive and introduces new melodies and direction for the future of his sound. Basically, he pays respect to his chiller, older classics but lets you know you’re about to feel the bass. Check it out/DL it below. Colorstorm by Ki//aMac The release couldn’t come at a more perfect time as our friends at The Collective Effort and Otter Productions prepare to take Bassnectar’s Divergent Spectrum tour to the Avila Beach Resort just south of San Luis Obisbo this Friday. GET TICKETS HERE See you there!

It’s In The Title | Zeds Dead

When a dj collaboration has had a featured album in GQ magazine, remixes of original work by tv commercial electropop favorite Dragonette, and several of tracks included included in sets by such artists as Rusko, Diplo and Bassnectar, all in the last year, then it is quite ironic to hear a name like Zeds Dead, because this Ontario-based duo is anything but dead. Comprised of artists DC and Hooks, the duo has found itself at the top of the music blog charts, finding its way to numero uno on The Hype Machine. Zeds Dead incorporates electronic beats with a dubstep drop, and somewhat of a hip-hop and funk groove to give it a unique sound that strays from the overly produced heavy hitting dubstep that is so common across the continents this past year. This jam is the perfect start to your long weekend. Throw it on the blaster during your next coffee break today and let the headbanging begin. It’s in the title. Lsiten UP. RABBLE on.

Heads Full Of Bass | Bassnectar

People love bass. Period. And this is the reason that people love Bassnectar. The sounds of Lorin Ashton from Santa Cruz, California became the norm at college parties up and down the Best Coast. Then, with the sudden explosion of dubstep and wobble bass, Bassnectar capitalized on his loud sounds that switch lanes faster than you can say “wah wah.” Check out this single from his next album Divergent Spectrum, which “disregards the rules and spans the spectrum of sonic shenanigans,” scheduled to be released August 2. Recently, he announced 26 new your dates for the Divergent Spectrum Tour [ON SALE NOW] for you Bass Heads out there. Listen UP. RABBLE on.

UPTHERE Mixtapes: Grimetime

In light of Rusko’s performance yesterday at Extravaganza (who by the way needs to see a dentist…quickly), and the one year anniversary of theRABBLE last week, we give you…Grimtetime Vol. 1. Grimetime is hard to explain, it’s better felt. Or heard. But still better felt. Kind of like an electric orchestra made up of mixed-machines, transformers, gears, gizmos and gadgets.  The real question is, is dubstep dying? Many would answer yes. Due to the influx of elitist remixers and producers who have recently dipped their electro-hands into the dubstep scene, we’ve seen over-hyped artists like Skrillex (signed to Deadmau5′s Mau5trap label) and others, emerge as well as receive criticism from the greater electronic music community for their lack of originality, musicianship, and “mainstream” appeal. The once underground music community that began in the UK has expanded exponentially, maybe too fast. The fact of the matter is that to the majority of Americans dubstep = wampwampwamp, over, and over, and over. And I have to admit, a lot of it is beginning to sound like garbage, but I believe the goods still exists. They’re are hidden gems, you just might have to look a little harder for them. Are we to blame? It will be interesting to see how the industry responds. To me, dubstep is embodied by its atmosphere – most will have to experience it to appreciate it. Enough talk. Here’s a collection to kickstart your grimy-ness off on the right foot. After all, it’s Monday. Disclaimer: faces may or may not melt.  Weird Plate?

We put it in two parts to save you download time!

Snowball Music Festival, Vail, CO March 4-6

SnowBaThe first weekend of March will kick off in a big way with SnowBall Music Festival In Vail, CO. Guaranteed for some great snow, sun, and sound systems, the first ever festival’s line-up is pretty unbelievable.  The thriving music scene coming from Colorado is allowing for more and more incredible names to get booked. This event should be right on par with the thrills areas like Denver and Boulder have been seeing. Some line-up favorites include Diplo, SAVOY, The Flaming Lips, Lotus, Miami Horror, Zed’s Dead, Eoto, Classixx, Porter Robinson, Michael Menert, GDD’s ///Bones, Pretty Lights, and Bassnectar.
