You Know You Like It | AlunaGeorge

Musical respect and artistic appreciation brought these two Londoners together to create this trip-hop/R&B marvel. Well, there’s that, and the internet. Just under a year ago Aluna Francis and George Reid found each other online and developed the musical child AlunaGeorge (creative, huh?) The combination is both soothing and sexy. The often liberating tracks of this duo reach deep inside as Francis’ sensual vocals are blended with the trip-hop synths of Reid. The two have begun releasing mixes on SoundCloud regularly.

This past week AlunaGeorge released their new EP You Know You Like It [BUY HERE], which will be released on vinyl come June 11th. Just in time for June 12th. Already they have gained quite attraction on the first place they met (that’s right, you guessed it. The internet.) Here is a track from their newly released album brought to you by theRABBLE, the official blog of UP THERE.

Listen UP. RABBLE on.

The 90′s | Dr. Dre & The Burning Man Culture

In this letter, supposedly inked by Dr. Dre, you can see the long-time producer and grammy award winning artist show his large interest in a mystical festival in the Nevada desert in 1995.  While looking for locations to film the infamous “California Love” video with Tupac, Dre has been rumored to have a hand in the financial backing of the festival from this point onward, beginning in the mid-90′s when it was just a 5,000 person event. If anyone has any info on this, we’d love to hear about it! We are incredibly interested in the origins of such a renowned movement.

Here is a cool Tumblr blog we found on the matter (caution: we know nothing of its validity).

Yerba Mate Mashup

Oh, you haven’t heard? I was under the impression that everyone had heard…

Well here it is! This delectable herb has drifted all the way from South America into the cups of thirsty caffeine seekers around the nation. For all the coffee lovers out there, there is finally a substitute that packs a punch big enough to call itself coffee’s long lost twin cousin – with a bit of a twist. Mate has been used in Argentina and Brazil….as is tradition…for over a century now.

Although the traditional use is performed by soaking water in the mate leaves and stems, proceeded by filling a gourd with the hot water and passing it around a group until finished. Once finished, well, they start again! The mate leaves can be used and re-used as long as desired for maximum pleasure. The caffeine buzz is not quite the same as coffee, for it embodies a focused, mellow level of concentration and attentiveness - without the shakes and increased heart rate.

Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Juggle

American Juggalo is a look at the often mocked and misunderstood subculture of Juggalos, hardcore Insane Clown Posse fans who meet once a year for four days at The Gathering of the Juggalos.  What can we learn from this culture?  Being yourself is respected, welcomed, and preferred.  Just as juvenile children find comfort in gangs that show them the love and respect, the juggalo community offers acceptance to a wide variety of individuals, creating an atmosphere that is open to all people.

Virtual Boy | Self Titled Debut Album | Review + More

Who are Virtual Boy?: “Founders Henry Allen and Preston Walker met freshman year at Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music based in California’s famed Orange County. Henry arrived from his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico as a classical guitar virtuoso. Preston, a Southern California native, became part of the Chapman University Choir, with which he toured Italy and sang for Pope Benedict XVI in the Sistine Chapel. But it was when Henry and Preston began composing together in their Music Technology class that their sonic potential revealed itself. Owing as much to Bach and Mozart as they do to Ratatat and evoking Air as much as Nosaj Thing and The Glitch Mob, Virtual Boy developed their own signature sound while producing their weekly composition assignments. The duo released their coursework as EPs, which reached audiences outside academia’s ivory towers. After making their live debut at notable Los Angeles weekly Low End Theory, they were approached by its founder Daddy Kev to release their subsequent EP, Symphony No. None in February of 2011 on Kev’s own Alpha Pup Records.” - Virtual Boy Official Facebook

Our interview with the guys will be posted shortly. Stay tuned! Read on to preview the album, read the review, and watch the new video for “Memory of a Ghost”!
